Entry / Exit Restrictions Key Updates

  • Malaysia remains relatively closed to those who are not citizens or residents. As Singapore rescinded the Reciprocal Green Lanes (RGL) agreement with Malaysia, there aren’t any active Greenlane agreements in place at the moment . All inbound Malaysian travellers are required to produce negative test results along with a mandatory quarantine.
  • New / Changed General Restrictions: Most states within Malaysia continue to be under a Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) which essentially allows most businesses to operate at full capacity with an outlined Standard Operating Procedure. Metropolitan States such as Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are on a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which essentially opens up more sectors given the reducing number of cases as compared to any of the other months in 2021 thus far.
  • Travel Restrictions are expected to be in place for the foreseeable future although vaccination efforts have begun.

Key Travel Route Updates, travelling from:

  • Singapore: This route is generally closed with the recent suspension of the Reciprocal Green Lanes (RGL) agreements other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents. However, Malaysia has not updated the requirements for Singapore business travellers to Malaysia
  • Indonesia: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents.
  • Vietnam: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents.
  • Philippines: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents.

Global Major Green Lane Updates

  • The United Kingdom’s Global Travel Taskforce has set out a framework to safely reopen international travel that would include a “traffic light system” which incorporates the assessment of percentage of the population that’s vaccinated, rate of infection, prevalence of variants concern and the country’s access to reliable scientific data and genome sequencing.
  • A total of 711 million vaccine doses have been administered globally with 154 million people fully vaccinated. This translates to 2% of the global population.
  • Croatia is set to allow tourists with proof of negative test or vaccination to enter the country.
