Entry / Exit Restrictions Key Updates

  • remains relatively closed to those who are not citizens or residents. As Singapore rescinded the Reciprocal Green Lanes (RGL) agreement with Malaysia, there aren’t any active Greenlane agreements in place at the moment. All inbound Malaysian travellers are required to produce negative test results along with a mandatory quarantine. 
  • New / Changed General Restrictions: Malaysia to enter phase 1 of total lockdown from June 1 to June 14
  • Citizens, their spouses, and permanent residents with MyTravelPass coming from Bangladesh, India and Nepal may enter subject to Malaysia’s protocols.
  • Singapore and Malaysia start accepting applications for cross-border travel on compassionate grounds. People from either country can apply for cross-border travel to visit family members for emergency reasons such as death or critical illness
  • All travellers are now required to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken at most 3 days before departure from the first embarkation point.
  • Travellers are now are subject to a COVID-19 RT-PCR test upon arrival at their own expense.
  • Travel Restrictions are expected to be in place for the foreseeable future, although vaccination efforts have begun. As at 29 May, 3.4% of Malaysia’s population have been fully vaccinated and 6% have received at least one dose.

Key Travel Route Updates, travelling from:

  • Singapore: This route is generally closed with the recent suspension of the Reciprocal Green Lanes (RGL) agreements other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents. However, Malaysia has not updated the requirements for Singapore business travellers to Malaysia 
  • Indonesia: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents. 
  • Vietnam: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents. 
  • Philippines: This route remains closed for travel other than for Malaysian Citizens or Residents. 

Global Major Green Lane Updates

  • Covid-19 cases rising in other countries aside from India, with Argentina recording the highest daily cases in the past few weeks.
  • A total of 1.87 billion vaccine doses have been administered globally, with 423 million people fully vaccinated. This translates to 5.4% of the global population.
  • European Parliament reached a provisional agreement for an EU-wide certificate for those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
